Platform Container

A platform container is a flat rack reduced to its deck. There are no end frames, no sides and no roof: just a reinforced steel bed with ISO corner castings so it can be handled, stacked and secured by standard container equipment.

It is the most specialised type in the catalogue and the least frequently traded. It is bought when cargo has to overhang in every direction, or when it must be loaded and lashed with completely unobstructed access from all four sides.

When a platform beats a flat rack

Only when the end frames are genuinely in the way. Flat rack end frames are useful — they take longitudinal lashing loads and give the cargo something to brace against — so a platform is the right answer only for cargo that is longer than the deck, or that must be craned and slung with clear access along the full perimeter.

Because there is nothing to brace against, the lashing plan carries the whole job. Expect the carrier to require a documented securing arrangement, and budget for the labour and materials to execute it.

Availability

Platforms are a small fraction of the global fleet and depot stock in Europe is thin. Lead times are longer than for any other type here and units are frequently sourced against a specific requirement rather than off the shelf. Give us the cargo dimensions, weight and intended route as early as possible.

What is the difference between a platform and a flat rack?
A flat rack has an end frame at each end; a platform has none. Everything else — ISO deck, corner castings, handling — is the same. Choose a platform only when the end frames genuinely obstruct the cargo or the lifting arrangement.
